FAQs

When is the best time to do birth education classes?

It’s completely up to you when in your pregnancy you’d like to start your classes. Ideally, starting around 20-25 weeks is ideal as it will give us enough time to get through the content without feeling rushed, but will mean everything we learn is still fresh in your mind for the arrival of your little one. That being said, if you’d prefer to get into it earlier, or you’re already further along in your pregnancy, get in touch and I will do my best to support you.

Is the Positive Birth education course just for the pregnant person, or can my support person attend?

Absolutely – the course is designed to support the birthing mother and her chosen birth partner – husband, wife, sister, mother, friend, auntie – whoever will be supporting her during the birth.

Is this course only for people planning a natural, non-medicated birth?

This course if for any and all pregnant people, and will provide useful tools you can use regardless of what kind of birth experience you’re hoping for and how things pan out. I will always be open and supportive of you regardless of your preferences (plus, working through your preferences is part of the course, if you’re reading this and not feeling quite sure yet what yours are!). The skills I teach will be helpful for you whether you’re hoping for an unmediated natural birth, if you’re wanting an epidural, or if you’re having a caesarean. If you have some questions or want to make sure we are a good fit, please drop me a line.

I’m not quite sure about ‘Hypnobirthing’ - what exactly is it?

I totally understand, the ‘hypno’ part can sound a little intimidating if you don’t know much about it! However, it is not at all scary or ‘out there’ - it simply refers to a relaxed and focussed state of mind that we tap into through meditation-like exercises, or ‘self-hypnosis’. This feeling of being completely in the present moment and not focussed on other things is a state of mind we all experience every day - a little like when you’re completely immersed in playing or listening to music, running, at Yoga, or just before/after you’re asleep.

Can I still do classes with you if I haven’t been active for a while?

Before starting movement classes, I connect individually with each person, and get medical clearance from your doctor/midwife to make sure I’m 100% confident and comfortable that I can fully support you. In my private classes, I can tailor every session completely to where you’re at - so if you’ve not been active for a while that’s absolutely fine! Pregnancy and all the associated changes that are happening in your body make moving feel not only more needed than ever, but a really juicy and interesting time to be active. I loved moving during pregnancy and noticing how my body felt different every day - it’s such an incredibly journey.

When can I start moving with you after my baby has arrived?

It’s hard to give a definitive date for this one as everyone is so different. We can start moving together once you have been cleared by your physiotherapist who will assess where you’re at (typically you’ll have an appointment around six weeks postpartum). I’m more than happy to connect with your physiotherapist to make sure I know exactly where you’re at and what will best serve your body and recovery.
